Iao Valley & Paia Town Day

Iao Valley State Park

Paia Town

Looking for a chill day of exploring? Look no further than Iao Valley State Park and Paia Town! This Annie's Pick is perfect for all ages and hiking abilities. The park may be small, but it packs a punch with its amazing grounds and cultural displays. Plus, the observation platform is just a short 15-minute hike away (even slower walkers can make it!). And if you have little ones or walking difficulties, don't worry - there's a great paved trail for you.

After you've had your fill of the park, head over to Paia Town for some more exploring. It's just a quick 20-minute drive away and can easily be done in an afternoon. And don't forget to grab a bite to eat at one of the many great dining options in town. The shopping is pretty incredible too.

If you're looking for some beach time, this side of the island has some great options. Check out Kanaha Beach for some wind sports viewing, or head to Sprecklesville Beach (AKA "Baby Beach") or Baldwin Beach Park for some sun and sand. And if you're lucky enough to catch a big swell hitting the north shore, head over to Jaws to see big waves Surfing! Jaws is one of the world's premiere big wave surfing waves.  It's just five minutes past Paia.

While you're in town, make sure to top off your gas at Costco (if you're a member) and grab any needed supplies in Wailuku or Kahului. Food prices are much cheaper here in town than on the west side of the island, so take advantage! And if you're in the mood for some baked goods, check out Four Sisters Bakery and Home Maid Bakery in Wailuku or Baked on Maui just outside of Paia.
