Annie's Favorite Bakeries

There are no shortages of fantastic Bakeries on Maui. The most known bakeries are not always the best. While they are very good, we know of a couple of local spots that we believe you will enjoy much more. Not only will you find truly great locally crafted food, but you'll enjoy the ambiance of the spirit of Ohana. Some of the bakeries are a bit out of the way, but well worth the trip.  We hope that you enjoy our little gems as much as we do.  Bon appetite!

Baked On Maui

375 W Kuiaha Rd # 37, Haiku, HI 96708

Of our top spots, this is one of them.  Everything on the menu is really good.  It's a bit out of the way, but worth the trip if you're visiting Paia or on the road to Hana.

I'm really into Sticky buns and I have to say that they are AWESOME!

Four Sisters Bakery

1968 E Vineyard St, Wailuku, HI 96793 (808) 244-9333

Four Sisters was a new discovery for us.  We were eating at the Sunrise Cafe in Lahaina, and they were out of sticky buns.  The waiter told us that they and many other restaurants on the Island buy their Sticky Buns from Four Sisters.  So now when we're in Wailuku we stop in.  It’s a real hole in the wall, but the freshly baked goodies are awesome! Annie gives two thumbs up!

Grandma's Coffee House

9232 Kula Hwy, Kula, HI 96790  (808) 878-2140

Grandma’s Coffee House is by far our favorite bakery/breakfast place on the island.  It’s a bit of a drive from the condo, but we’re going up-country, we always stop at Grandma’s Coffee House. The Sticky Buns are HUGE.  The breakfast entrees are big enough to split between two people.  We’ve had just about everything on the menu, but we tend to gravitate to the Kalua Local and the breakfast sliders.  We try and sit outside.  The view is wonderful from the back deck.  Oh, watch out for the Chickens.  They own the place.  There is usually a line, but it moves pretty fast.

Home Maid Bakery

1005 Lower Main St, Wailuku, HI 96793 - (808) 244-7015

Home Maid Bakery is more a full service bakery.  They have everything form Bento Plates (lunch), Fresh Breads, Cakes, Manju (filled Cookies) Mochi Malasadas and other assorted pastries.  And the Short Bread Cookies are wonderful. I think Costco carries their Cookies sometimes.  It's in a weird building and parking is not great, but wait a minute and a spot will open up.  The Guava Cake is to die for.

Komoda Store and Bakery

3674 Baldwin Ave, Makawao, HI 96768 - (808) 572-7261

Komoda was one of our favorite places when we didn't know better.  It's been around since 1916.  It's really good, but a little pricy for what you get.  It's a great place to stop on your why to Haleakala. They do cater to tourist but it's still a great place to visit.  While you are there, take in the town of Makawao.  It's a great little town to do a little shopping.

La Provence

13158 Lower Kula Rd, Kula, HI 96790 - (808) 878-1313

What can I say about La Provence, I have a love hate relationship with them. The food is simply amazing, but the staff are very rude.  Kind of like being in Paris.  All of their pastries are amazing, and if you like crapes, I believe that they have some of the best on the island.  If given a choice between Grandma and La Provence, We usually go to Grandma because of the people.  Grandma Bakery is just down the road form La Provence.  But I do think that La Provence's pastries are better.  It's worth a visit, but make sure you have a mask, They won't let you in without one.

Papi's Ohana

3481 Lower Honoapiilani Rd b102, Lahaina, HI 96761 - (808) 868-82000

Papi's has only been open for a short while.  It's only a few minutes by car from the condo.  I was a little perplexed by the Pastries and Pizza in the same place. But it really works.  The Pastries are awesome, and the Pizza is crazy good.  It's in a weird little building, but easy to find.  I'm not sure what I like better, the pizza or the pastriesTotally worth a visit.
